ElectroServer 4 - General Updates

Hi all; as you can see, lots of things are happening here at Electrotank. With the succesful release of ES4, we are now starting to add features and enhancements people have requested. Here is just a small list for the next release:
  • Substantially improved server-side API documentation
  • Manual updates, tweaks and additions
  • More server-side examples for everyone to sink their teeth into
  • Full remote restart - this will let you perform a full restart of the server from the web-based admin. The real use is that you can now install the server remotely and manage everything through the web, including uploading extensions, changing settings, etc. No need to log onto the console anymore.
  • Some small tweaks and bug fixes for reported issues.

And for the near future, we will also be adding in a blazing fast rolling encryption algorithm to the server that you can use to secure communications with clients. Expect to see true, high-performance binary protocol support soon as well!

Here is an article we put together that covers the major differences: http://www.electro-server.com/documentation/articles/es4/benefitsofES4/benefitsofES4.aspx

As for migrating a plugin, the core concepts are the same but the API is totally updated. The best place to start would be the example files that come with the server so you can see how things are laid out.
